Lake Como was named by Father Antonio Ravalli after a lake very similar to this in the Alps of his native Italy.

In the Beginning chapters of the book, the author explains the connection of the economics of banking in Illinois to the barren benches of the Bitterroot Valley - in a very personal way. The Chicago Bank and Trust financed part of the development of the Valley, which is how Iza Liggett becomes a victim and heroine at the same time.
