Dragon Power! FF6 Dramatis Personae
Milla
Jovovich is the ultimate butt-kicking heroine, and she has a knack for
playing characters who are full of raw, unbridled, animalistic, and
almost alien power that they can't comprehend or control. Her
roles in Resident Evil,
The Fifth Element,
and The Messenger: The
Story of Joan of Arc
are all prime examples of characters who don't understand themselves,
their role in a greater destiny, or the power that has been forced upon
them against their will. This is exactly the type of
character
Terra is -- forget being a hero, she is having enough trouble just being.
She is also lonely, naturally, as no one can understand her
plight, even if they cared to try. What she wants most of all
is
to feel human, and have real, meaningful relationships and a
sense
of attachment with other humans -- the problem is that she doesn't
really know what being "human" is, or how to care for others.
Eventually, she ends up being
used by others (both good and evil), but in the end it comes down to
her making a decision of how she is going to live the twisted life
she's been thrown into. Only one thing is certain: anyone who
dares get in the way of her quest for identity is going to feel
externally what she is going through internally.
A little James Bond, a little Indiana Jones, and a little Fred Astair
make Locke the thief -- I mean, "treasure hunter" -- that he is.
Despite being a daring adventurer, he miraculously is never
far
from a beautiful lady or two. Bad luck for him, though, as
his
weakness for the fairer sex causes him more trouble and heartbreak than
he'd like.
This was a tough role to cast, but I think Jude would do Locke justice.
I'm mainly thinking of when he played that male prostitute
android in the movie A.I.
Swift, nimble, silver-tongued, and always doing his best to
maintain a sense of grace under pressure.
As much as Locke might try to be a ladies' man, Edgar is the one who
gets the job Done with a capital D. He's the lecherous king
of
Figaro who has slept with every girl in the kingdom -- and even though
the ladies speak ill of his affairs when he's not around, they still
wouldn't pass up the chance to be with him for anything in the world.
It takes a big ego to fill Edgar's shoes, and Tom Cruise just
might have the ego for two Edgars. Tom (or, at least, the
"classic" Tom of yesteryear) is God's gift to women, and he knows it.
I'm not thinking of any particular role he's done in the past
--
all he has to do is put on a cape and act like Tom Cruise.
He's a
prettyboy whose job aptitude test in high school said "royalty" as his
future occupation. Political, elegant, decadent -- if Edgar
were
alive today, he would be a Hollywood actor too.
There's just no contesting this one. Claws? Check.
Experience in pouncing onto enemies from above?
Check.
Gruff exterior, often mistaken for a wild animal, but with a
heart of gold? Check. Ridiculously tough and always
jumping
unnecessarily into danger? Checkmate!
Obviously, I'm just thinking of Hugh's performance as X-Men's
Wolverine, but that's really all we need for Sabin. Sabin
wanted
nothing to do with political power, and gave up his chance for the
throne
despite his brother Edgar's wishes. The guy just needs some
space, and that space is usually out in the middle of the wilderness
somewhere, with plenty of bears to wrestle and maybe even some people
who want him dead. Same goes for Wolverine. The guy
is a
lone wolf at heart, and avoids leadership and politics like the plague.
But he's loyal to his friends, and if any of them are in
danger,
he's the first one to jump into the fray and start some shit.
