Dwyer Middle School Library

Welcome to the

Dwyer Library Resource Site!

Dwyer Library is dedicated to serving our community of students, parents and educators.  Library services are available Monday through Friday to all students during lunches and after school until 3:00 p.m..  Throughout the day, teachers schedule visits to the library with their classes on an “as needed” basis.

A quiet and studious environment is emphasized during lunch time for students who wish to read, work on  homework, take a Reading Counts quiz or use any of our 12 new computers which have internet access.  When possible, Textbooks are available for students to use in the library as well as supplies such as lined or plain paper.  Scissors, tape, staplers and colored markers, calculators and rulers are also available for student use.

Library books are checked out to students for a two week loan period.  The limit is two books at any time.  Overdue books must be renewed or returned before new books can be checked out.  There is no charge for overdue books.  Any books lost or damaged must be paid for with either cash or checks made out to HBCSD—Dwyer.

Text books are distributed at the beginning of each school year for students to take home.  Students are expected to return the Textbooks at the end of the school year.  Parents will be charged the replacement cost of the book if it is not returned.  Students will miss out on some school activities at the end of the year until their library account is cleared.

Twelve computers are available for student use.  The Library Catalog that is on-line provides information about the Library book collection.  Internet access is available to all students.  Filters disallow most websites featuring inappropriate subjects and the Librarian monitors the sites that students view.  Games, MySpace, personal email and Music sites are not allowed on the Library computers.  Computers are for school related topics only.  A laser black and white printer may be used for printing.

Reading Counts lists are in the library listed by Title and Lexile number.  Students may take Reading Counts Quizzes on the computers in the Library and their teacher’s accounts will be automatically notified of the results.

A new color scheme was added to the library during the summer of 2008.
