Dwyer Library is dedicated to serving our community of students, parents and educators. Library services are available Monday through Friday to all students before school, during lunches and after school on Thursdays. Throughout the day, teachers schedule visits to the library with their classes on an “as needed” basis. A quiet and studious environment is emphasized during lunch time for students who wish to read, work on homework or take a Reading Counts test. When possible Textbooks are available for students to use in the library as are supplies such as lined, plain or quad ruled paper. Scissors, tape, staplers and colored markers are also available for student use. Library books are checked out to students for a two week loan period. The limit is two books at any time. Overdue books must be renewed or returned before new books can be checked out. There is no charge for overdue books. Any books lost or damaged must be paid Text books are distributed at the beginning of each school year for students to take home. Students are expected to return the Textbooks at the end of the school year. Textbooks are very expensive. Students/Parents will be charged the cost of the book if it is not returned. Students will miss out on some school activities at the end of the year until their library account is cleared. Twelve computers are available for student use. The Library Catalog that is on-line provides information about the Library book collection. Internet access is available to any student who has a current School I.D. card. Filters disallow most websites featuring inappropriate subjects and the Librarian monitors the sites that students view. Games, MySpace, personal email and Music sites are not allowed on the Library computers. Computers are for school related topics only. A laser black and white printer may be used for printing. Reading Counts lists are in the library listed by Title and Lexile number. Students may take Reading Counts Quizzes on the computers in the Library and their teacher’s accounts will be automatically notified of the results. Connect to the Dwyer Reading Counts Quiz List on the Helpful Links page at this site! A copy of the Dwyer Reading Counts Quiz list is on file at the Huntington Beach Public Library on Talbert. Ask at their information counter. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Coleman with any questions.
