How
did I get here.That's another story... I suppose I would say that I
have had a very interesting and eventful life living and working in
various countries.(One day I'll write a book about it- someone up there
must have a great sense of humour!). I worked in the corporate
jungle of life assurance for many years, however a strange set of
circumstances brought me to a provincial town in the North Island of
New Zealand. With nothing much else to do, I started writing... and
five books later this is where I'm at.
I am a middle aged man
with twin teen-age boys to support and love. They are the most
important thing in my life and I want to be the best dad I can
possibly be to them. I have many varied interests, but I like the
simple things of life best. Like the pleasures of walking barefoot
along the stunningly beautiful beaches of this region and revelling in
God's magnificent creation.
I like the outdoors, as well as
travel (see my book HERE,THERE AND EVERYWHERE). For too many years I was wondering where my life was
going, now I have absolutely no idea. I miss my family in South Africa greatly as well as the vibrancy of that country. One day,
perhaps, I'll make enough money to be able to travel there. If you like my books and buy them, that is!
There are a number of
parts to my personality, as I am a very intense person (see the
headings on the previous page). I feel very strongly about them and
am trying to carve out a career from following my passions. I
like writing about things that are very dear to my heart which I'll
be brave enough to share with you:
My beloved former country,
South Africa is the subject of my first two novels: END
OF THE LINE and THE
NEW RAINBOW. I wanted to make some contribution, however small,
in promoting understanding between the races ,because with it comes
tolerance and a spirit of reconciliation. We are all products
of our circumstances,our environments and our histories. With some
understanding of our differences, we can start to reach out to others
not quite like ourselves.
My books on South Africa are my
little drops in the ocean and part of the serious side of my nature
(which has come to the fore far more in my middle years)..
Another
very important "mission" of mine is helping people to
achieve their full potential in life by following their dreams. I
believe God gives each one of us many talents; however many of
us don't find them (sometimes until we have the time in retirement),
due to the ongoing financial pressures of earning a living
,supporting a family and paying off the mortgage.
I have a
number of different styles that I use in my writing. From the
passionate to the "whacky" and bizarre, both sides of which
I suppose are part of me (and the story of my life). In my writing
which is based on my varied experiences of life, I try to inform,
entertain and perhaps even inspire the reader. I hope you enjoy my
books more than you do a life assurance policy bought from me!
I
love my work (if it is a real job that is!); however I
greatly miss the people contact as I'm a 'people person'. I would
dearly love to make a living from it, and be of service to people. My
ultimate dream is to make my writing self sufficient, travel in my
work, live at the beach and help other people follow and achieve
their dreams in life.
